Hip Hop has been a popular music genre with the youth since it was formed. Hip Hop has always been something that city youth could relate their lives to. Since Hip Hop started in the early 70s, it has became more like a lifestyle than just a music genre. Hip Hop has produced a matchless clothing style, a matchless language full of slang, and its own exclusive portrayals of world issues. When it comes to music in general, Hip Hop is in all probability the most influential.
The term Hip Hop was coined by the Hip Hop legend Keith Wiggins. He is accredited for naming Hip Hop. He was a piece of the legendary Hip Hop group Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. This group was one of the first and played a major part in the conception of a fan base for the music. The Sugar Hill Gang and The Sequence are two other especially notable early Hip Hop groups.
Hip Hop wouldn't be the same if DJ Kool Herc did not exist. He is considered to be the creator of the notable music genre. He went against what was fashionable in Bronx in the 70s. He, along with additional eminent DJ's, fused funk, rock, and Latin percussion into one piece. This fusion is what Hip Hop was started from. DJ's are responsible for the formation of Hip Hop with their use of turntables. DJ's added breaks to music, which opened the doors for break dancing. DJ's and B-Boys were the first in the Hip Hop scene. DJ's then joined with emcees to add to the diversity in their mixes. Emcees renovated the genre and made it the main point of the youth in the approaching decades.
Lyrics began to get more meaningful that the inner-city people could relate to. Rapping started as poetry spoken to an instrumental.
Since its establishment, Hip Hop has evolved into something that is barely linked to the old Hip Hop. Graffiti, break dancing, and DJ's aren't as important as they once used to be. As the world changes, Hip Hop keeps adapting. The inner-city affect on Hip Hop and vice versa is why Hip Hop keeps changing. Some believe that Hip Hop is dead and the Hip Hop of today doesn't deserve the name Hip Hop. Other people believe that Hip Hop has to change to adapt with the ever changing lifestyle of city youth now. Whatever you may believe, there is no skepticism that Hip Hop is one of the most influential music genres in the world.
